Who runs what in Manitoba

Manitoba is the odd one out on its own platform. PlayNow.com is also the provincial site in British Columbia and Saskatchewan, where the legal age is 19 — here it is 18. Same website, different threshold, because the age follows the province and not the operator.

This is the clearest illustration on the site of why a national "legal age in Canada" figure is useless. Someone in Manitoba at 18 is playing lawfully on exactly the site where someone the same age in British Columbia is not, and no interface difference tells you that.

Who regulates it, and what kind of body that is

Oversight sits with Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority of Manitoba, a body whose remit is gaming rather than consumer services generally. It is not, however, a register of private operators: its job here is the provincially conducted product and the licensing of charitable and retail gaming, not the vetting of commercial casino sites.

Either way, the thing that does not exist in Manitoba is the thing that makes a ranking possible: a public list of private operators that a regulator has vetted and that anyone can check a brand name against.

The age trap on a platform you share with British Columbia and Saskatchewan

Manitoba is 18+ while British Columbia and Saskatchewan — on the same website — are 19+. Nothing in the interface tells you which rule you are under; the site looks identical from either side of the border.

The practical consequence is for anyone who travels or has just moved: the age that applies is the one where you physically are when you open the account, not the one where you opened it. An account that was lawful at home can be unlawful for the weekend, and a verification check is exactly when that surfaces.

• Verify before you deposit, not after. Identity and age checks are the biggest avoidable cause of a slow first payout.
• Match the names. The name on the receiving bank account has to match the name on the casino account, exactly.
