Where to get help now
These services are national or operate across several provinces. They are not run by us and not run by an operator.
Several provinces run their own programme in addition to these, usually through the provincial health authority or the Crown gaming corporation. We do not list those numbers here yet, because we have not verified each one against the organisation that operates it — and we will not publish one before it is confirmed with the organisation that runs it. The services above are the ones we point to.
The tools a registered site must give you
On a site registered in a Canadian province, the following are not features the operator chose to offer — they are conditions of the registration:
- Deposit limits you set yourself, which take effect immediately when lowered and only after a delay when raised.
- Time and loss limits, and a session clock you can see.
- Self-exclusion, applied at the operator and, in the regulated markets, available as a broader exclusion across registered sites.
- Account closure on request, without the balance being held hostage to a promotional condition — there are no promotional conditions on this site's listed brands to begin with.
- Identity and age verification before a first withdrawal at the latest.
On an unregistered international site none of that is guaranteed, and there is no provincial body to complain to when a limit you set does not hold. That is the practical reason this site ranks only registered brands.
The legal age is not the same everywhere
It is 19 in most of Canada and 18 in Alberta, Quebec and Manitoba. The age follows the province you are physically in, not the province on your identification, and one of them run a lower threshold for lottery and charitable gaming than for casino play. The rail at the top of every page shows the age that applies to the province you pick.
An exclusion does not travel between provinces
Registration is provincial, and so is everything built on top of it. A self-exclusion taken on a site registered in one province is held by that province's framework and by that operator; it does not automatically reach a site registered somewhere else, and it does not reach an unregistered international site at all. The same applies to the deposit and loss limits you set: they are account-level settings at one operator, not a national record that follows you.
The practical consequence is that an exclusion is only as wide as you make it. If you hold accounts at several brands, each one needs its own, and a provincial scheme covering registered sites still leaves anything outside that register untouched. This is the same structure that makes a national "best of" list misleading, read from the other direction.
If a limit is not honoured
Raise it with the operator first and in writing, so there is a record with a date on it. If that goes nowhere, the complaint belongs with the regulator that granted the registration, because the registration is the thing at stake and the regulator is the only party that can act on it. Each province page on this site names its own regulator and links to it directly. On a site with no Canadian registration there is no such step: the operator is the first and last place to complain, which is the difference the register actually buys you.
Signs worth taking seriously
The pattern that matters is not the size of a loss but the response to it: staking more to recover a loss, playing longer than intended and repeatedly, borrowing to fund play, hiding how much has been staked, or finding that the only thing that lifts a low mood is a session. Any one of those is a reason to use a deposit limit today rather than at the end of the month.
Nothing on this site frames gambling as income, as an investment, or as a way to recover money. If you read that framing anywhere on a comparison site, treat the whole page as advertising rather than information.
Verification is a protection, not an obstacle
The identity check a registered site runs before your first withdrawal is usually experienced as friction, and it is the same mechanism that makes the age rule and any exclusion enforceable. An operator that cannot establish who you are cannot tell that you excluded yourself last year, cannot apply an age threshold, and has nothing to check a limit against. Sites that let money move without ever confirming an identity are not being generous with your time; they have simply not built the part that would let a limit hold. If a withdrawal is the first point at which a site asks who you are, that is worth reading as information about the site rather than as an inconvenience.
What this site deliberately does not publish
No promotional offers, incentives or codes appear anywhere here, in any province or either language. The two regulated Canadian markets prohibit advertising inducements to players and we applied the stricter reading everywhere rather than geo-gating it. One consequence is that you will not find the pressure copy that usually sits next to a responsible-gambling notice, quietly undoing it.
